WASHINGTON, D.C.- In response to President Donald J. Trump’s decision to fire Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer, Chief Counsel for Advocacy Casey B. Mulligan issued the following statement:
“It is about time bureaucrats are held accountable for quality results. President Trump is doing exactly that by replacing the Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, where the accuracy of the nation’s employer survey has severely degraded.
Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and should not be underrepresented in national statistics. The previous Commissioner was unable to show any discernible improvement in response rates. Nonresponse is a symptom of paperwork burdens placed on small employers, which happens far too often throughout the government.
President Trump’s team will do better.”
