SBA Proposes Updates to Monetary-Based Small Business Size Standards

What: On August 22, 2025, the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Size Standards released proposed updates for monetary-based small business size standards. This proposal covers 263 industries under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).

Why: Small business size standards impact a business’s ability to participate in government contracting programs and compete for contracts set aside for small businesses. Industry size standards are reviewed by the Office of Size Standards every five years and divide businesses based on monetary sizes for service-based industries and employee numbers for manufacturing industries. Currently, SBA is seeking comments on the monetary-based industry size standards.

Action: Comments are due by October 21, 2025. Advocacy will host a roundtable on September 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM ET via Teams to gather input from small businesses.
