On June 12, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published in the Federal Register a Request for Information (RFI) on Reducing Regulatory Burdens. The RFI seeks comments to assist the agency in identifying opportunities to reduce the burdens and costs of existing rules, regulations, and practices without compromising safety. The Office of Advocacy (Advocacy) appreciates the opportunity to provide input on behalf of small entities and supports CPSC’s deregulatory reform efforts, including its commitment to reviewing and addressing requirements that may be outdated, unnecessary, or unduly burdensome. Advocacy views this initiative as an important step toward ensuring consumer product safety requirements while remaining effective, balanced, and mindful of small businesses’ realities.
The mission of Advocacy is to give small entities a voice in the regulatory process. As part of working to accomplish this goal, Advocacy regularly meets with small entities to discuss how federal regulations impact their daily business practices. Advocacy’s comments contain general suggestions to improve the regulatory process and 11 specific rules that should be targeted for deregulatory efforts.
